About Liliane
I am a writer and artist who is inspired by dark fairytales. Ever since I was little, grinning skeletons, ghosts, lavishly adorned mummies and monsters of all kinds have been my favourite creatures in stories. The beautifully haunting Gothic tales my father collected seemed a never-ending source of joy for my imagination. Thus I have been strongly influenced by classic authors such as Edgar Allan Poe, Oscar Wilde and H. P. Lovecraft – as well as by the illustrators of their magnificent works.
As a person who is mostly self-taught, I highly value the independence surrounding my work. My main inspiration comes from the superior beauty of nature and its inexhaustible wealth of endearing forms. I love to take a closer look at flowers and insects to take a grasp of their well-composed perfection. Working with a strong ornamental aesthetic, Art Noveau guides me along my way — but also the morbid elegance of contemporary Japanese art has influenced my personal style.
As Oscar Wild once rightfully asked: “With freedom, books, flowers, and the moon, who could not be happy?”
